North Korean Hacker Targets Kraken in Job Scam

A North Korean hacker applied for an engineering job at US crypto exchange Kraken, aiming to infiltrate the firm, Kraken revealed on May 1. The applicant used a fake identity, switched voices, and raised red flags during interviews.

Kraken advanced them to study their tactics, uncovering a network of false identities tied to a known hacker group. North Korea’s Lazarus Group, behind 2024’s $1.4B Bybit hack, has stolen over $650M from crypto firms this year. Kraken’s security chief stressed verification to counter such global cyber threats.
