About SolDrop

SolDrop is aiming to bring some fun and gamification to the Solana ecosystem through their interactive Mystery Box Platform. Onboarded projects will able to use SolDrop’s platform to make all of the typically mundane processes associated with Web3 far more engaging from how they distribute their Whitelists to promoting activity within their communities. Having initially started as the much-hyped Bonk Boxes, the team have really stepped it up a notch by rebranding as SolDrop and taking their product to the next level.

The SolDrop Boxers

The SolDrop Boxers are a collection of 3333 NFTs, including 333 King’s Crowns (VIPs) which successfully minted out through the Fat Cats Capital Launchpad on March 16th. Holders will be granted VIP status on the SolDrop platform and unlock a wide range of benefits.

The SolDrop Platform

The SolDrop Platform provides a clean and highly aesthetic mystery box website. Mystery boxes can be opened with SOL or SPL tokens and can host a wide array of prizes from Solana’s most popular projects. SolDrop isn’t just another traditional mystery box website either and to set themselves apart, are bringing in new ways to apply this technology to all aspects of the Web3 process.

Projects that are interested in exploring how they can use SolDrop can find the pitch deck here.

Whitelist Boxes

The project started this as their very own proof-of-concept to distribute their own Whitelist tokens. SolDrop generated 10,000 WL Keys that could be distributed to their members of their community. This was done via wallet collection and distribution to those who had the roles, internal community events and partner projects. These keys were then used to open the Whitelist Box which contained not only Whitelist Tokens (Free, OG, WL1 and WL2) but also SOL, NFTs and even $BONK tokens. This completely changes the game of the typically mundane whitelist grind and makes the process much more fun and interactive to help build that sense of community.

For a project utilising this service, in addition to having a fun and well-put-together interface, other benefits include:

  • Opportunity to earn revenue on the micro-transactions before they have even minted
  • A highly marketable way to encourage engagement with their project
  • Access to the SolDrop Client Circle and access to key allocations of other projects using SolDrop.

Engage2Earn Boxes

SolDrop recently announced their first partnership for the Engage2Earn boxes with Drunken Ape Social Club. Projects will be able to fill their own boxes with prizes of their choosing and distribute keys as rewards to their communities for engagement. With Raid2Earn clearly being highly played out by now, the Engage2Earn boxes provide a far more dynamic way for projects to encourage activity from their holders.

There are future plans to build this out to allow projects to create multiple boxes with task requirements to allow encouragement of specific activities.

Season-Based Boxes

SolDrop plans to have Season Boxes which will be regularly updated on a bi-weekly or monthly basis to reflect the current trends in the ecosystem with prizes varying from WL spots to hyped projects, SOL and even huge NFT prizes. These will be available for anybody to open for a set price in SOL with profits being used in the monthly kickback boxes for holders. These Season Boxes will ensure that the prospect of opening mystery boxes never goes stale as it maintains desirable prizes for anybody to win.

The SolDrop Boxers

Holders of the SolDrop Boxers are granted exclusive benefits on the SolDrop Platform. These benefits begun as early as 3 days post-mint with minters being airdropped keys to open boxes for free that would have cost 1.5 SOL to open. Prizes ranged from 0.5 SOL with a jackpot prize of a y00t! At a 2 SOL mint, that was an immediate 25% ROI to minters.

It is important to note that holders must have had paid royalties in order to receive the benefits.

Partner Projects

NFT holders will be able to earn keys for all projects onboarded onto the SolDrop Platform whether it be WL Box Keys or Engage2Earn. Allocations will vary from project to project but Whales (holders of 10+) will be prioritised with guaranteed allocations and remaining keys to be distributed via raffles.

At time of writing, 2 projects have already signed on to use SolDrop with 3 more expressions of interest.

KickBack Boxes

As mentioned previously, all box openings generate revenue on the microtransactions and SolDrop have committed 40% of the profit generated to purchasing prizes for Monthly Kickback Boxes as a way to reward existing Holders.

Keys to the Kickback Boxes are distributed at a rate of 1 Key per 3 Boxers. Crown Trait holders will also earn an additional key.

Future Plans

The following benefits are in the works for Holders:

  • Rakeback for holders on boxes that they open for themselves
  • Level progression system as holders open more boxes
  • Staking for points
  • Access to Exclusive items

Crown Trait Boxers

Important: At the time of writing, it is important to note that the trait being referred to here is the King’s Crown trait. There is another trait called Crown which looks like a Jester Hat. The team is aware of this and will be changing it to avoid confusion but for now, keep that in mind.

At present, the main benefits of holding a King’s Crown Boxer are:

  • Revenue Share from the BOX-I Discord Bot
    • 40% of profits from BOX-I will be used to provide holders with a free opening monthly
  • Better returns on the Kickback Boxes
    • Having 1 Crown trait in your trio of Boxers will entitle you to two keys instead of just one.

Future benefits include:

  • Higher multipliers on rewards once rakeback, level progression and battle passes are introduced.

BOX-I

BOX-I is a Discord Mystery Box Bot that allows any community to create boxes within their own servers and sell them to members for SOL and/or SPL tokens. The goal is for this bot to be white-labelled in as many projects as possible. The bot itself has already been completed and will be launched late April.

Projects interested in using the service should join the BOX-I Discord here.

Initial Thoughts

Too many projects try to do too many things and end up spreading themselves thin. What results is a project with a bit of everything but done poorly. There is significantly more value in a project sticking to one thing and absolutely nailing it. To quote the great Ron Swanson:

In the case of SolDrop, they have absolutely nailed this idea. One of the first thoughts I had when interacting with what they’ve built was how unbelievably clean and aesthetic it was. The box openings were very smooth and it certainly made the process a lot more fun.

When the post-mint reward keys were drop, I couldn’t believe how much time and effort had gone into creating an animated key that was going to be burnt anyway. It would have been VERY easy for the team to think ‘they’re being burnt anyway so who cares’ and produce something very basic but the fact that the time and effort was made to produce something really high quality is a great sign for any project wanting to utilise their services. You’re not going to get some basic 2D images. You’re going to get something really engaging and of high quality.

Utilities

I personally love the idea of taking what were typically very mundane processes and bringing more fun back to them. For a long time ‘fun’ is what defined the Solana ecosystem and there has been a general feeling this has been lost so it’s great to see SolDrop trying to bring this back.

It will be very interesting to see what other aspects of project development that this utility could be applied to. I could the idea of mystery boxes being applied to staking mechanisms for projects in a very fun way.

Scaling

The biggest potential here in my opinion is the capacity to scale. The limiting factor will be how interesting they can keep Mystery Boxes as far as concepts go. The Season Boxes are a great start by being regularly updated to reflect wherever the hype is within the space. From a holder’s perspective, there is every incentive to get out there and promote SolDrop’s services to both new and existing projects. The more projects that are onboarded, the more revenue generated by SolDrop, the better the potential prizes in the Boxes.

The Boxes themselves also have the potential for this positive feedback loop. The more they are used, the more revenue generated, the more enticing the prizes, the more engagement they could get, the more they are used and so on. The potential is definitely there!
